Os Maias
-Visual Identity Design
Project of visual identity and advertisement created for a theater play based on the portuguese book “Os Maias” by Eça de Queiroz.
This was a very ambitious project conceived in 2019 as part of the creation of a visual identity for a Dona Maria II High School (ESDMII) event.
It was a school play focused on the famous work of Eça de Queiroz.
The idea was to give a more "new" perspective on an old work of literature. As such, this modernization of the old had to be reflected in the development of the design to this play.
The various roles I performed at this project included creating the visual identity for the entire event, managing the social media and digital content, promoting the event, and finally backstage photography.
Poster and Flyers Design
Visual Identity
Among several conceptual studies, I came across a few key words that I decided would be present in this project in some way:
. Modernization
. Geometric
. Clean
. Simple
. Monochrome
. Digital
. Accessible
Therefore, I decided to explore these meanings through the use of geometric shapes in the main composition of the visual identity of this set. Geometric shapes, the "clean" concept, simplicity and the monochromatic treatment itself were key points in defining a modern aspect.
Some decisions included adopting a QR code that directs the user to the event's Facebook page, where photos of the event and general information are posted, among other things.
Another important decision was the idea of reuse and sustainability. Not only did I want the event to stay in people's memories forever, but I also wanted to create a flyer that was not "disposable" in a sense, but that they could keep for a long time and put to a new use.
To make this work I had to find a strategy, I thought of giving the object a decorative dimension, something they can easily have as a decorative element at home, so the idea came up to create an illustration, a digital illustration with a lot of texture to save the connecting element of the old with the modern.
So the cover kept the "clean" dimension, modern and simple on the front and a more rustic and somewhat classic plastic treatment to satisfy all the tastes of those who want to keep the artifact.
